The J-Ring Apparatus determines the passing ability of self-compacting concrete (SCC) as it flows through the tight openings and spaces between reinforcing bars, without segregation or blocking.
How It Works
The J-Ring — a steel ring fitted with vertical bars spaced at set intervals — is placed around the slump cone on a level base. As the concrete flows out through the bars after the cone is lifted, the spread diameter and the flow time to reach 500mm (T500) are recorded, together with the difference in concrete height inside versus outside the ring, indicating how well the mix passes through congested reinforcement.
