The V-Funnel assesses the filling ability of self-compacting concrete (SCC) — how readily the mix flows through a narrow opening under its own weight, without segregation or blocking.
How It Works
The V-shaped funnel is filled with self-compacting concrete, and a trapdoor at the bottom is opened, allowing the concrete to flow out through the narrow opening under gravity. The time taken for the funnel to empty completely (the V-funnel flow time) is recorded with a stopwatch: a shorter flow time indicates a more flowable mix, while a longer time (or the flow stopping before the funnel empties) indicates poor filling ability or blocking, often due to segregation or an unsuitable aggregate-to-paste ratio.
