L - Box Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : TVT-CTE-10489
The L-Box assesses the passing ability of self-compacting concrete (SCC) — its ability to flow through specified gaps between steel reinforcing bars and fill formwork without segregation, blocking, or the need for vibration.
How It Works
The apparatus consists of a vertical section connected to a horizontal section through a gate fitted with vertical reinforcing bars spaced at a set gap. Self-compacting concrete is poured into the vertical section, and the gate is opened, allowing the concrete to flow through the bar gaps into the horizontal section under its own weight, without vibration. The height of concrete remaining in the vertical section is compared with the height reached in the horizontal section, giving a "blocking ratio" (H2/H1) that indicates how well the mix passes through congested reinforcement without segregating or blocking.

Applications
Used to assess the passing ability of self-compacting concrete (SCC) mixes per EN 12350-10 (and the related EFNARC/international guidelines for SCC testing), an important property for SCC used in heavily reinforced sections where the mix must flow and fill without external vibration.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the L-Box test measure?
The passing ability of self-compacting concrete — how well the mix flows through gaps between reinforcing bars without segregating or blocking, expressed as a blocking ratio (H2/H1) per EN 12350-10.
Why is passing ability important for self-compacting concrete?
SCC is placed without vibration, so it must be able to flow through congested reinforcement under its own weight alone; poor passing ability can cause blocking and incomplete filling of formwork.
Is the L-Box test specific to self-compacting concrete?
Yes — it is one of several dedicated SCC workability tests (alongside slump-flow and V-funnel tests), distinct from the standard slump cone test used for conventional vibrated concrete.
