Shrinkage Mould 75 X 75 X 300mm

Product Code : TVT-CTE-10494

The Shrinkage Mould 75 x 75 x 300mm is a polished-surface mild-steel mould used to cast prism specimens for determining the linear (drying) shrinkage of concrete over time.

How It Works

A concrete prism (75 x 75 x 300mm) is cast in the mould with a measuring stud or gauge point embedded at each end. After demoulding, the specimen's length is measured against a length comparator at set time intervals as it dries and shrinks, and the change in length relative to the initial reading is calculated as a percentage — the linear shrinkage. The mould's polished-surface mild-steel construction gives a smooth, true casting surface that helps produce a specimen with accurately parallel, plane ends.

Applications

Used to cast standard prism specimens for determining the linear (drying) shrinkage of concrete per ASTM C157 and IS 516, an important property for assessing crack-risk and long-term dimensional stability of a concrete mix.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this mould produce a specimen for?
A 75 x 75 x 300mm concrete prism used to measure linear (drying) shrinkage over time, per ASTM C157/IS 516.

How is shrinkage actually measured on the cast specimen?
The demoulded prism\u2019s length is measured against a length comparator at set time intervals as it dries, and the change relative to the initial length is expressed as a percentage shrinkage.

Why is linear shrinkage testing important for concrete mix design?
Excessive drying shrinkage increases the risk of cracking in hardened concrete, so shrinkage testing helps assess and control this risk when qualifying a mix design, particularly for slabs and other restrained elements.
