The Proving Ring Penetrometer is a portable field instrument used to determine the bearing strength and compaction degree of subgrades by measuring the penetration resistance of soil, using a calibrated proving ring in place of a hydraulic load gauge.
How It Works
A penetration piston is pushed into the soil at a controlled rate while the reaction force is measured through the deflection of a calibrated proving ring, giving a direct force reading without the need for hydraulic components. This makes the instrument compact, robust and well suited to rapid field checks of subgrade and pavement layer compaction.
