The Automatic Triaxial System is a fully automated, computer-ready triaxial testing system that combines a Triaxial Loading Frame and an Advanced Pressure Volume Controller to run the full range of consolidated and unconsolidated triaxial shear strength tests on soil specimens.

How It Works

The Triaxial Loading Frame and Pressure Volume Controller each carry an LCD graphical display and panel keypad, and can be run as part of a computer-controlled system or as stand-alone units. Axial load is measured by force sensors and axial deformation by a high-precision displacement sensor, while a stepper-motor-and-worm-gear drive gives rigid, low-noise, smooth-running platen movement; an over-force protection device automatically stops the machine if the axial force exceeds the load sensor's measuring range. The pressure-volume controller channels are pre-calibrated and can generate confining/back pressure up to 2000 kPa (20 bar), with volume measured to a resolution of 0.001 ml.

Applications

The system runs the standard triaxial shear strength test suite used in geotechnical design: unconsolidated-undrained testing per ASTM D2850 / IS 2720 (Part 11), consolidated-undrained testing per ASTM D4767 / IS 2720 (Part 12), and consolidated-drained testing per ASTM D7181 / IS 2720 (Part 13). Results are used to determine shear strength parameters (cohesion and angle of internal friction) for foundation, embankment and slope stability design.
