Digital Direct Shear Testing Machine Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : TVT-STE-10600
The Digital Direct Shear Testing Machine performs the consolidation and shearing phases of standard direct shear and residual shear tests under fully automatic speed control, giving precise, repeatable shear strength parameters for soil specimens.
How It Works
A micro-stepper motor applies horizontal shear load to the soil specimen in the shear box at a user-input shearing rate, while shear force readings are captured from a proving ring at specified intervals of horizontal displacement and shown on the touch-screen display. The control panel combines an LCD screen with a 16-key membrane keypad for manually setting and controlling the test, and built-in 16-bit data acquisition logs the readings automatically; a reciprocating shear capability with settable reversal timing allows residual shear strength to be determined by repeated forward-and-reverse shearing. Limit sensors protect the shear box from over-travel in either direction.

Applications
The machine is used for the standard direct shear test per ASTM D3080/D3080M: Standard Test Method for Direct Shear Test of Soils Under Consolidated Drained Conditions and IS 2720 (Part 13): Direct Shear Test, and for residual shear strength determination via repeated reversals per BS 1377 (Part 7): Shear Strength Tests (Total Stress). Results give the peak and residual shear strength parameters (cohesion and angle of internal friction) used in slope stability, retaining wall and foundation design.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the standard and residual shear tests on this machine?
The standard direct shear test shears the specimen once to peak strength, while the residual shear test uses the reciprocating shear capability to shear the specimen repeatedly back and forth until strength stabilises at its residual value.
How is the shear force measured?
Shear force is measured via a proving ring at specified intervals of horizontal displacement and displayed on the touch-screen data acquisition system.
Which standards does this machine support?
It supports ASTM D3080/D3080M and IS 2720 (Part 13) for standard direct shear testing, and BS 1377 (Part 7) for residual shear strength testing via repeated reversals.
