Concrete Penetration Apparatus Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : TVT-CTE-10451
The Concrete Penetration Apparatus determines the setting time of concrete mixes with a slump greater than zero, by testing the mortar fraction sieved out from the fresh concrete mix rather than the concrete itself.
How It Works
Mortar is sieved from a sample of the fresh concrete mix and placed into a test container. At regular time intervals, a needle of specified bearing area is pressed into the mortar to a fixed depth, and the force required to achieve that penetration is recorded. As the mix stiffens over time, the penetration resistance rises; initial and final setting times are defined as the elapsed times at which the mortar reaches specified penetration-resistance thresholds. Because the compact carrying case holds all needles and accessories together, the apparatus is well suited to both laboratory and field use.

Applications
Used to determine the initial and final setting time of concrete (via its sieved mortar fraction) per ASTM C403 and IS 8142, which is important for planning finishing operations, formwork removal, and construction joint timing on site.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is mortar sieved from the concrete instead of testing the concrete directly?
The needle penetration method needs a fine, uniform matrix to give consistent readings; sieving out the mortar fraction (removing the coarse aggregate) allows the same penetration-resistance principle used for cement/mortar setting time to be applied to a concrete mix.
What does this test determine?
The initial and final setting times of the concrete mix, based on the penetration resistance of its sieved mortar fraction over time, per ASTM C403/IS 8142.
Is this suitable for use on a construction site as well as in the lab?
Yes — the apparatus is supplied in a compact carrying case and the standard explicitly covers testing of field-prepared concrete mixes with slump greater than zero.
