Compressometer Extensometer Apparatus

Product Code : TVT-CTE-10449

The Compressometer Extensometer Apparatus measures the longitudinal (axial) and lateral strain of concrete cylinder specimens during a compression test, the key measurement needed to determine the static modulus of elasticity and Poisson's ratio of concrete.

How It Works

The compressometer clamps around the concrete cylinder at two fixed gauge points and measures axial (longitudinal) shortening as the specimen is loaded in compression; the extensometer attachment adds lateral strain measurement across the specimen's diameter, needed specifically for Poisson's ratio. Strain readings are typically taken with a precision digital dial indicator (6.5 mm travel x 0.001 mm resolution) at defined load increments as the specimen is loaded in a compression testing machine, and the load-strain data is then used to calculate the modulus of elasticity as the slope of the stress-strain curve within its linear (elastic) range. Tvet Equipments lists compressometer and compressometer-extensometer variants sized for the common 100 x 200 mm, 112.8 x 220 mm, and 4" x 8" cylinder sizes.

Applications

Used together with a concrete compression testing machine (such as Tvet Equipments' Automax E-Modulus compression machine) to determine the static modulus of elasticity and Poisson's ratio of concrete cylinders in compression, per ASTM C469 and EN 12390-13 — a standard input for structural design calculations and concrete mix qualification on major infrastructure projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this apparatus used to measure?
The axial (longitudinal) and lateral strain of a concrete cylinder under compressive load, which is used to calculate the static modulus of elasticity and Poisson\u2019s ratio of the concrete per ASTM C469/EN 12390-13.

What cylinder sizes does it fit?
The compressometer covers Ø100 x 200 mm, Ø112.8 x 220 mm and Ø4" x 8" cylinders; the compressometer-extensometer variant covers Ø100-112.8 mm cylinders.

Does this apparatus include the compression testing machine?
No — this is a strain-measurement accessory used together with a separate compression testing machine (such as Tvet Equipments\u2019 Automax E-Modulus machine); confirm the exact machine/accessory pairing with Tvet Equipments when ordering.
