Asphalt Binder Analyzer (Ignition Method)

Product Code : TVT-BATE-10343

The Asphalt Binder Analyzer (Ignition Method) from Tvet Equipments determines the asphalt binder content of Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA) by burning off the binder in a high-temperature furnace and continuously weighing the sample, giving both binder content and aggregate gradation data from a single test.

How It Works

A weighed HMA sample, typically 1200-1800 g, is placed in the combustion chamber and heated above the binder's flame point. An integrated weighing system continuously tracks the mass loss as the asphalt binder burns off, and once the weight stabilises the analyzer calculates the binder content by subtracting the remaining aggregate mass from the sample's initial mass. Interlocked safety systems keep the furnace door closed during combustion, and the remaining aggregate can then be sieved for gradation analysis.

Applications

The Asphalt Binder Analyzer is used for determining asphalt binder content by the ignition method under ASTM D6307 and AASHTO T308, the standard test methods for asphalt content of hot-mix asphalt by the ignition oven, and is applied in asphalt plant quality control labs, highway agency testing laboratories, and civil engineering institutions performing HMA mix verification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How does the ignition method determine binder content?
It continuously weighs the HMA sample while the binder burns off in the furnace, then calculates binder content as the difference between the initial sample mass and the mass of aggregate remaining after combustion.

Q2. What sample size does the analyzer accept?
It can accommodate up to 3000 g, though 1200-1800 g is the recommended sample mass range for accurate results.

Q3. What furnace temperature range is used?
The temperature is controllable from 100 °C to 800 °C, with 1.0 °C detection resolution and ±5 °C control accuracy, covering the range needed to burn off asphalt binder above its flame point.
