The Distillation Assembly For Recovery of Asphalt from Tvet Equipments recovers asphalt binder from a solvent solution obtained during extraction testing, yielding recovered asphalt with properties substantially similar to those it had in the original bituminous mixture, in a quantity sufficient for further testing.
How It Works
The bitumen-solvent solution produced by a prior extraction step (such as centrifuge or reflux extraction) is heated in the distillation flask, driving off the solvent as vapour while leaving the recovered asphalt binder behind. Careful control of distillation temperature and rate minimises hardening or alteration of the binder, so its properties remain representative of the asphalt as it existed in the pavement mix.
