Automatic Ring & Ball Softening Point Apparatus Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : TVT-BATE-10353
The Automatic Ring & Ball Softening Point Apparatus from Tvet Equipments is a fully automatic instrument that determines the softening point of bitumen using twin laser sensors to detect ball fall, removing the need for the operator to watch and time the drop manually.
How It Works
Bitumen discs held in tapered rings sit above steel balls, positioned by a ball-centring guide, inside a heat-resistant glass bath filled with water or glycerol. A magnetic stirrer with adjustable heating keeps the bath uniform while a microprocessor drives the bath temperature upward at a controlled linear rate; two laser sensors continuously watch each ball, and the instant a ball falls through its softened bitumen disc, the corresponding bath temperature is captured and logged as the softening point, with results for up to 50 tests stored in memory.

Applications
The Automatic Ring & Ball Softening Point Apparatus is used to determine the softening point of bitumen under ASTM D36 / IS 1205, and its wider 0-270 °C temperature range extends coverage to higher-softening-point binders such as modified and polymer-modified bitumen. It is used in asphalt binder R&D laboratories, highway agency testing facilities, and QC departments of bitumen and modified-binder manufacturers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How does the automatic version differ from the semi-automatic model?
It uses twin laser sensors to automatically detect the moment each ball falls, removing the need for the operator to watch and time the drop, and extends the usable temperature range up to 270 °C for higher-softening-point binders.
Q2. How many test results can it store?
The instrument can store results for up to 50 tests in memory for later review or reporting.
Q3. Can it test modified bitumen with a high softening point?
Yes, its 0-270 °C temperature range and 5 °C to 180 °C testing range extend beyond standard paving-grade bitumen to accommodate polymer-modified and higher-softening-point binders.
