The Sand Pouring Cylinder Set is the calibrated cylinder apparatus used with the sand replacement method to determine the in-situ density of fine-grained compacted soil.
How It Works
A hole is dug into the compacted soil layer and the excavated material is collected, dried and weighed. Calibrated free-flowing sand is then poured from the sand pouring cylinder to fill the hole and a calibrating can of known volume, allowing the volume of the excavated hole — and hence the in-situ dry density of the soil — to be calculated.
