The Soil Colour Chart is a standardised reference set used to describe and record the colour of soil samples consistently and objectively, both in the field and in the laboratory.
How It Works
The set consists of seven constant-hue charts printed on neutral grey chart stock, plus a dedicated Gley Colour Chart for describing submerged, waterlogged soils, displaying 28 matt colour chips covering weak chromas and neutrals at value levels 4 to 7 across the 5GY, 5G, 5BG and 5B hues. Apertures cut between adjacent colour chips let the operator view the soil sample directly alongside the standard colours for a close visual match, and the charts, diagrams and interleaves are housed in a pocket-sized loose-leaf binder for convenient field use.
