Core Cutter Set Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : TVT-STE-10569
The Core Cutter Set is used to determine the in-situ dry density of surface soil layers by driving a thin steel cutter cylinder into the ground and recovering an undisturbed volume of soil.
How It Works
The core cutter is driven vertically into the compacted soil using a driving rammer and dolly until it is fully seated, then carefully dug out from the surrounding ground. The cutter, complete with the enclosed soil, is trimmed flush at both ends, weighed, and a sample is oven-dried to determine moisture content; since the internal volume of the cutter is known, the in-situ bulk and dry density of the soil are then calculated directly.

Applications
The core-cutter method is used to check the in-situ density and compaction of fine-grained soil layers in embankments, subgrades and fill, governed in India by IS 2720 (Part 29): Determination of Dry Density of Soils In-Place by the Core-Cutter Method, with the broadly equivalent international method covered by ASTM D2937: Standard Test Method for Density of Soil in Place by the Drive-Cylinder Method. It is best suited to soft to medium cohesive soils that are free of large stones or gravel, which can distort or damage the thin cutter edge.

Frequently Asked Questions
When is the core-cutter method preferred over the sand replacement method?
The core-cutter method is generally preferred for soft to medium, stone-free cohesive soils, while the sand replacement method is better suited to soils containing gravel or coarser particles.
How is the density calculated from the core cutter?
The known internal volume of the cutter, combined with the weighed mass of soil recovered and its moisture content, gives the in-situ bulk and dry density directly.
Which standards govern the core-cutter density test?
IS 2720 (Part 29) governs the method in India, with ASTM D2937 covering the broadly equivalent drive-cylinder method internationally.
