Proctor Test Apparatus

Product Code : TVT-STE-10561

The Proctor Test Apparatus from Tvet Equipments is a soil compaction test set comprising the rammers and moulds used to determine the moisture-density relationship of soil for earthwork and foundation control.

How It Works

Soil is compacted into a cylindrical mould in layers, each layer receiving a fixed number of blows from a rammer of specified weight dropped through a specified height. Repeating the test at a range of moisture contents produces a compaction curve from which the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content are determined. Tvet Equipments manufactures its compaction rammers and moulds from heavy-duty steel with a protective finish to resist corrosion and rusting under repeated laboratory and field use.

Technical Specifications

Construction: heavy-duty steel rammers and moulds with anti-corrosion finish. Specific mould/rammer dimensions and weights vary by standard/light or modified compaction configuration — please confirm exact model specifications with Tvet Equipments at the time of enquiry.

Applications

Proctor compaction testing is used to establish the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of soil for embankments, subgrades, and backfill, governed by IS 2720 (Part 7): Determination of Water Content-Dry Density Relation Using Light Compaction and IS 2720 (Part 8) for heavy/modified compaction, corresponding to ASTM D698 (Standard Proctor) and ASTM D1557 (Modified Proctor) internationally. Results are used to specify and verify field compaction requirements during construction.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between standard and modified Proctor tests?
The standard Proctor test (IS 2720 Part 7 / ASTM D698) uses a lighter rammer and lower compactive effort than the modified Proctor test (IS 2720 Part 8 / ASTM D1557), which better represents heavier modern compaction equipment.

Why are the rammers and moulds made from heavy-duty steel?
Repeated blows and frequent handling in both lab and field settings demand a rugged, corrosion-resistant construction to maintain dimensional accuracy and service life.

Is this apparatus used alongside CBR testing?
Yes, compacted specimens prepared using Proctor moulds are frequently used as the starting point for CBR testing on the same soil sample.
