Plastic Limit Set Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : TVT-STE-10581
The Plastic Limit Set brings together the equipment required to determine the plastic limit of soil, the moisture content marking the boundary between the plastic and semi-solid states of a fine-grained soil.
How It Works
A small ball of soil paste is rolled by hand into a thread of standard diameter on a glass or non-absorbent plate; the moisture content at which the thread just crumbles at that diameter is recorded as the plastic limit. Combined with the liquid limit result, this gives the plasticity index of the soil, a key parameter in soil classification.

Applications
The plastic limit test is carried out alongside the liquid limit test as part of the Atterberg limits determination, governed by IS 2720 (Part 5): Determination of Liquid and Plastic Limit and ASTM D4318: Standard Test Methods for Liquid Limit, Plastic Limit, and Plasticity Index of Soils. The resulting plasticity index is fundamental to soil classification (IS 1498 / ASTM D2487) and to assessing a soil's suitability for subgrade, embankment and foundation use.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the plastic limit represent?
It is the moisture content at which a soil transitions from a plastic to a semi-solid state, determined by rolling the soil into a standard-diameter thread until it crumbles.
Why is the plastic limit tested alongside the liquid limit?
Together they give the plasticity index (liquid limit minus plastic limit), a key parameter used in soil classification and engineering assessment.
Which standards govern this test?
IS 2720 (Part 5) in India and ASTM D4318 internationally govern both the liquid limit and plastic limit determination.
