How It Works
The cylinder is located and centred by the specimen-guide and centring-stopper system, and the mechanical locking mechanism holds it firmly in a fixed, controlled position relative to the frame's reference plane while the end-preparation process is carried out; some configurations include a small vibrating platform to assist the process. Because there is no capping compound to melt, mix, or cure, specimens can be prepared and moved on to compression testing without the additional curing time a sulfur-mortar or gypsum cap would need.
