Soil Lathe Apparatus Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : TVT-STE-10604
The Soil Lathe Apparatus is a specimen-preparation tool used to trim and reduce undisturbed soil specimens to a precise diameter, from 35 mm to 101.6 mm, ready for triaxial, unconfined compression or other index testing.
How It Works
An oversized or roughly trimmed soil specimen is mounted in the lathe and rotated slowly while a cutting wire or blade trims away excess material, bringing the specimen down to the exact target diameter required by the test standard being followed. This multi-size design allows one lathe to prepare specimens across the full 35–101.6 mm range commonly used in triaxial and unconfined compression testing, rather than requiring separate trimming jigs for each diameter.

| Approx. Weight | 5 kg |
Applications
Precise specimen trimming is a preparatory step for triaxial testing (ASTM D2850/D4767/D7181, IS 2720 Parts 11–13) and unconfined compression testing (ASTM D2166, IS 2720 Part 10), where the specimen diameter and the height-to-diameter ratio directly affect the validity of the test result. Consistent, accurate trimming reduces specimen disturbance and ensures the prepared diameter matches the target mould or loading platen exactly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What diameter range does the soil lathe cover?
It covers specimen diameters from 35 mm to 101.6 mm, spanning the range commonly used in triaxial and unconfined compression testing.
Why does specimen diameter accuracy matter?
Triaxial and unconfined compression test results depend on an accurately known specimen diameter and height-to-diameter ratio; imprecise trimming can introduce error into the calculated strength parameters.
Is this apparatus used with undisturbed or remoulded samples?
It is primarily used to trim undisturbed samples recovered by tube sampling, though it can also be used to prepare remoulded specimens to a precise final diameter.
