How It Works
A measured volume of fine sand or glass spheres is poured onto the pavement surface and spread outward with a flat disc or spreading tool, filling the surface depressions up to the level of the surrounding aggregate peaks, until the material forms a roughly circular patch. The diameter of the resulting patch is measured, and together with the known volume of material used, this gives the mean texture depth of the surface — a smaller patch diameter indicates a rougher, deeper-textured surface.
