The Travelling Beam Apparatus from Tvet Equipments is a simple mechanical device used to detect surface irregularity on concrete or asphalt pavements, consisting of a beam with rigid wheels at each end and a probe wheel at the centre.
How It Works
The two end wheels run along the pavement surface, establishing a reference straight line between them, while the centre wheel rides on a graduated scale linkage. Any vertical deviation of the pavement surface beneath the centre wheel — a dip or a hump relative to the straight line joining the two end points — is read directly off the scale as the beam is moved along the surface, in increments as fine as 2 mm.
