The Proctor Penetrometer Apparatus is a portable penetration-resistance instrument used to assess the compaction and bearing condition of soil specimens compacted in a Proctor mould, giving a quick check of consistency across a compacted layer.
How It Works
A calibrated penetration probe is pushed into the surface of a Proctor-compacted soil specimen or compacted field layer at a controlled rate, and the resistance encountered is read directly from the instrument's calibrated scale. Because the reading responds to both moisture content and compactive effort, repeated readings across a compacted layer or across specimens compacted at different moisture contents give a rapid comparative picture of compaction uniformity and bearing condition.
