Capping Gypsum Compound is a high-strength gypsum-based capping material offering a faster, safer, and cheaper alternative to sulfur-mortar capping, rubber-pad capping, or end-grinding for preparing concrete cylinder specimen ends before compression testing.

How It Works

The gypsum compound is mixed with water in the specified ratio and applied to the cylinder end while still workable, then allowed to cure for around 30 minutes before the specimen is compression tested. Because it cures at room temperature and needs no melting pot or open flame, it avoids the burn and fume hazards associated with molten sulfur-mortar capping, while still achieving high compressive strength in the cured cap so it does not fail before the concrete specimen itself during testing.
