How It Works
A measured sample is heated in an open test cup at a controlled, steadily increasing rate using continuous silicon-controlled temperature adjustment. At specified intervals, a small automatic test flame is passed across the surface of the sample; the flash point is recorded as the lowest temperature at which the flame causes a momentary flash across the surface, and the fire (burning) point is recorded as the temperature at which the sample ignites and continues to burn for at least 5 seconds.
