Roller Compactor Apparatus

Product Code : TVT-BATE-10344

The Roller Compactor Apparatus from Tvet Equipments prepares full-scale bituminous mix slabs by roller compaction, producing specimens for wheel-tracking rut resistance testing or for cutting into beams for bending fatigue testing — a compaction method that better reproduces field roller compaction than impact hammers.

How It Works

The pneumatically powered unit is fully enclosed with safety cutout switches. A steel-frame roller segment reciprocates over a mould support table under a set vertical load (up to approximately 12 kN), while pneumatic actuators drive the reciprocating table and apply the compaction force. A PLC controller manages the compaction start, emergency stop, automatic cycle selection, and the number of roller passes, so slabs are compacted to a target density with a repeatable, programmable rolling action.

Applications

The Roller Compactor Apparatus is used to prepare bituminous mix slab specimens under EN 12697-33, the European standard method for specimen preparation by roller compactor, ahead of wheel-tracking and bending fatigue testing. It is used by highway research institutions, pavement engineering laboratories, and asphalt mix design departments evaluating rutting and fatigue performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Why use roller compaction instead of a Marshall hammer?
Roller compaction produces full-size slab specimens with a compaction action closer to field roller compaction, making it better suited to preparing specimens for wheel-tracking and fatigue tests than impact-hammer methods.

Q2. What load does the roller apply?
The rolling wheel line pressure is 9 kN, with a vertical load selectable up to approximately 12 kN depending on the target density required.

Q3. Can the number of roller passes be controlled precisely?
Yes, the PLC controller allows the roller car cycle to be set anywhere from 1 to 999 cycles, giving precise control over the compactive effort applied to each slab.
