Flow Cone Apparatus

Product Code : TVT-CMTE-10385

The Flow Cone Apparatus from Tvet Equipments is a compact, stainless steel instrument used to determine the flow properties of grouts, cement muds and other fluid construction materials, giving laboratories a fast, repeatable measure of a fluid mix's consistency before it is placed or injected.

How It Works

A measured volume of grout, cement mud or other fluid sample is poured into the cone and allowed to discharge freely through a calibrated orifice at its base into a graduated receiving vessel. The efflux time — the time taken for a specified volume to flow out — is recorded with a stopwatch and used as a direct index of the fluid's consistency: a longer efflux time indicates a thicker, more viscous mix, while a shorter time indicates a thinner, more free-flowing one.

Applications

This compact Flow Cone Apparatus is used for efflux-time flow testing of grouts for preplaced-aggregate concrete (ASTM C939) and cement-based grouts used in post-tensioning ducts, ground anchors and pressure grouting, where consistent, pumpable flow behaviour is critical to proper placement. It is sized for routine bench-top quality-control checks in construction material laboratories and on-site batching trials.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What standard governs grout flow cone testing?
ASTM C939 (Standard Test Method for Flow of Grout for Preplaced-Aggregate Concrete, Flow Cone Method) is the primary reference standard for efflux-time flow testing of cement-based grouts using this type of apparatus.

Q2. How is efflux time measured?
A stopwatch is started the instant the cone's outlet is opened and stopped once the specified sample volume has fully discharged into the receiving vessel; this elapsed time is the reported efflux time.

Q3. Why choose the compact stainless steel version over the larger Flow Cone?
The compact version suits smaller sample volumes and routine bench-top grout quality checks, while the larger-capacity Flow Cone is better suited to higher-volume drilling mud and field batching applications.
