Plunger Penetration Apparatus

Product Code : TVT-CMTE-10392

The Plunger Penetration Apparatus from Tvet Equipments determines the consistency of fresh masonry mortar and cement by measuring how far a calibrated plunger penetrates the sample under a controlled drop, giving laboratories a direct, repeatable consistency reading.

How It Works

The sample is placed in the test cup housed in the recess of the apparatus's steel base. The penetration plunger, mounted on a vertical column above the cup, is released from a fixed drop height of 100 mm and allowed to penetrate the mortar or cement sample. The resulting penetration depth is read directly from the apparatus and used as an index of the sample's consistency — softer, more workable mixes allow deeper penetration, while stiffer mixes resist penetration.

Applications

The Plunger Penetration Apparatus is used in masonry and cement testing laboratories to assess the consistency of fresh mortar and cement, following the same plunger-penetration principle set out in EN 1015-4 for determining the consistence of fresh mortar. It is particularly useful for masonry mortar quality control, where consistent workability directly affects bond strength and construction productivity on site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What standard is this test based on?
The plunger-penetration principle used by this apparatus follows the approach set out in EN 1015-4 for determining the consistence of fresh mortar.

Q2. What materials can be tested?
The apparatus is designed for testing the consistency of fresh masonry mortar and cement pastes.

Q3. How is the result interpreted?
Greater plunger penetration depth indicates a softer, more workable mix, while shallow penetration indicates a stiffer mix — results should be compared against a known reference batch or specification requirement.
