The Semi Auto Pendulum Impact Tester is a Charpy-type impact testing machine used to determine the notch toughness of metallic materials by measuring the energy absorbed during fracture of a standard notched specimen.
How It Works
A pendulum hammer of known mass is raised to a set starting angle and released to swing down and strike a notched specimen mounted horizontally across two supports; the specimen fractures, and the pendulum continues its swing to a reduced height on the far side. The difference between the pendulum's starting and rising heights (read via a semi-automatic dial or digital display) gives the energy absorbed in fracturing the specimen — the Charpy impact value, a direct measure of the material's notch toughness and resistance to brittle fracture.
