Mechanical Extensometer

Product Code : TVT-STE-10622

The Mechanical Extensometer is an attachment to a universal testing machine that measures the elongation of a test piece over a set gauge length under load.

How It Works

The extensometer's jaws are clamped to the specimen at the start of the test at a fixed gauge length; as the specimen is loaded on the universal testing machine, the device mechanically tracks the increasing separation of its jaws and displays the elongation, which is used to determine the proof stress at a required elongation percentage and other tensile properties.

Applications

Mechanical extensometers are used alongside universal testing machines for tensile testing of reinforcement bars and structural steel per ASTM E8/E8M and IS 1608, providing the elongation measurement needed to determine proof stress at a specified elongation percentage and other tensile properties, complementing the electronic Non Metallic Material Extensometer used for high-stretch materials.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this extensometer measure?
It measures the elongation of a test piece over a fixed gauge length as it is loaded on a universal testing machine, used to determine proof stress at a required elongation percentage.

What is its measuring resolution?
Per its specification table, its resolution is 0.01 mm over a measuring range of 0 to 50 mm.

Is this suitable for non-metallic materials?
This mechanical extensometer is intended for standard tensile testing of metals such as reinforcement bars and structural steel; for large-elongation, non-metallic materials such as rubber and plastic, the Non Metallic Material Extensometer is the appropriate accessory.
