The Manual Vicat Apparatus from Tvet Equipments determines the setting time and standard consistency of cement, using an interchangeable needle-and-plunger assembly moving against a graduated scale to give laboratories a direct, code-compliant reading.
How It Works
A cement paste sample is prepared at the water content under test and placed in the Vicat mould beneath the apparatus. The needle or plunger, attached to the bottom of the sliding rod to make up the standard total test weight of 300 g, is released and allowed to penetrate the paste; an adjustable indicator moving over the graduated scale on the metal stand shows the depth of penetration. Depending on which accessory is fitted, the same frame is used to determine standard consistency (Vicat plunger) and initial/final setting time (Vicat needle).
