Rolling Thin-Film Oven Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : TVT-BATE-10362
The Rolling Thin-Film Oven from Tvet Equipments simulates the short-term ageing that bitumen undergoes during hot-mix asphalt production, by exposing a moving film of semi-solid bituminous material to controlled heat and air.
How It Works
Bitumen samples are placed in glass bottles mounted on a rotating carriage inside the oven, held at a controlled 163 °C. As the carriage rotates at a steady speed, each sample bottle continuously exposes a fresh thin film of bitumen to the heated air stream inside the oven, replicating the thin-film exposure and air oxidation the binder experiences during plant mixing. Mass loss and property changes (penetration, softening point) measured before and after the test indicate the binder's resistance to short-term ageing.

Applications
The Rolling Thin-Film Oven is used to determine the effect of heat and air on bitumen under ASTM D2872 / AASHTO T240, the standard test methods for the Rolling Thin-Film Oven Test (RTFOT), a required short-term ageing conditioning step in Superpave and performance-grade (PG) bitumen specification testing. It is used in asphalt binder QC laboratories, refinery bitumen testing facilities, and highway agency material approval labs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What does the RTFOT simulate?
It simulates the short-term ageing (hardening from heat and air oxidation) that bitumen undergoes while being mixed and handled at the asphalt plant, before it is even laid on the road.
Q2. What temperature is used for the test?
The oven is held at a controlled 163 °C, the standard conditioning temperature specified by ASTM D2872 / AASHTO T240.
Q3. How is this different from the Thin Film Oven Test (TFOT)?
RTFOT rotates the bitumen sample bottles continuously to expose a fresh film to the heated air, whereas the classical TFOT method uses a static or slowly rotating flat plate; both test the same short-term ageing phenomenon.
